“Corrected eyesight through glasses or contacts is not the same as corrective surgery. If I had it to do over again, I would have done it sooner.”
-Dessie Stafford

The Optimal LASIK Experience

At our vision correction practice in Columbia, Missouri, Dr. H. Kell Yang offers CustomVue® LASIK eye surgery using the latest technology. CustomVue® LASIK is a variation on the LASIK procedure in which the ophthalmologic surgeon uses a state-of-the-art piece of equipment called a WaveScan® Analyzer to create a detailed map of the cornea. Using this map, the surgeon is able to more precisely customize LASIK treatment to the unique visual aberrations of each patient. LASIK is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce an individual's dependence on glasses or contact lenses. After having LASIK eye surgery, our patients often report feeling a sense of freedom in being able to wake up every day to clearer vision.

LASIK Candidates

Many people who currently rely on glasses or contact lenses to correct their myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism are suitable candidates for the LASIK procedure.

You may be a good candidate for LASIK if you:

  • Have had a stable vision prescription for at least a year
  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Do not have an autoimmune disorder
  • Are not pregnant

Dr. Yang can determine whether you are a suitable candidate for LASIK during a free LASIK consultation. Contact our LASIK surgeon today to schedule an appointment.

The LASIK Procedure

Prior to the CustomVue® LASIK procedure, Dr. Yang uses the WaveScan® Analyzer to create a map of the patient's cornea, which allows him to tailor the LASIK treatment to the patient's individual needs.

Dr. Yang begins the LASIK procedure by applying anesthetizing drops to the eye. He then uses a speculum to ensure that the patient's eye remains open during the surgery. Once the patient has been positioned under the laser, the surgeon creates a flap in the outer layer of the cornea and administers laser light to the underlying corneal tissue. After carefully reshaping the cornea with the laser, the doctor replaces the flap. No stitches are necessary due to the cornea's ability to heal itself.

Post-LASIK Recovery

After the LASIK procedure, Dr. Yang may give you eye shields to wear at night. The shields will ensure that you do not accidentally rub the eye and displace the flap while it heals. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities the day after their LASIK eye surgery.

"I chose Dr. Yang for my LASIK surgery because he pays special attention to the details, from explaining the process while I was literally going through the surgery, all the way down to calling me a couple hours after my surgery to see how I was. He and his staff were great to work with and they entertained my 101 questions...my eyes thank you a bunch!"
