“Dr. Yang agreed to perform the surgery to remove the cataracts and implant lenses in each eye...His extraordinary skill and care resulted in an outstanding success! I do not have to sit at home for the rest of my days unable to pass a drivers vision test because I passed the vision test not having to wear glasses at all...”

Our Advanced Vision Treatments

In addition to providing custom LASIK eye surgery, Dr. H. Kell Yang offers a range of other vision correction treatments to improve your quality of life. During your initial private consultation, Dr. Yang will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the various vision correction treatments offered at our practice and help you choose the procedure that best meets your individual needs.

PRK

Like LASIK eye surgery, PRK is performed with an excimer laser that reshapes the cornea to correct the common refractive errors myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. The main difference between the two procedures is that during the LASIK procedure, the surgeon creates a thin flap in the epithelium, the outer layer of the cornea, which he or she gently folds back to reveal the corneal tissue beneath. The PRK procedure, on the other hand, doesn't involve the creation of an epithelial flap. Therefore, with PRK, there is no risk of complications arising due to poor healing of the flap; however, it typically takes longer for the eye to heal after PRK.

LASEK

LASEK, or laser assisted sub-epithelial keratomileusis, is similar to PRK and LASIK eye surgery in that it involves reshaping the cornea to correct refractive errors responsible for poor vision. Unlike PRK, LASEK involves the creation of an epithelial flap. That is, the surgeon creates a flap in the outer layer of the eye in order to access the corneal tissue beneath. In this way, the procedure is somewhat similar to LASIK; however, the LASEK flap is much thinner than the LASIK flap and is produced using an alcohol solution rather than a microkeratome or a laser. The creation of a thinner flap reduces the risk of flap-related complications.

Monovision

As our eyes age, our close vision gradually begins to degenerate, necessitating the use of reading glasses when performing close work. This common condition is known as presbyopia. An alternative to cumbersome reading glasses or bifocals, monovision corrects one eye for close vision and the other for distance vision. This can be accomplished with contact lenses or refractive eye surgery.

Cataract Surgery

If cataracts are interfering with your ability to enjoy life to its fullest, and heavy prescription lenses do not provide the clear vision you desire, cataract surgery may be an appropriate solution. At our vision correction center, Dr. Yang performs cataract surgery using phacoemulsification. Using ultrasound technology, phacoemulsification breaks apart the damaged natural lens. After these pieces are aspirated from the eye, a biocompatible replacement lens, known as an intraocular lens, is inserted.

ReSTOR® Lens

The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens is a type of intraocular lens (IOL) that is designed to replace your eye's natural lens if it becomes damaged due to the presence of cataracts. Utilizing technology originally designed for telescopes and microscopes, the ReSTOR® lens allows patients to see clearly at various distances. In fact, many patients report that after ReSTOR® lens implantation, they are able to see more clearly than ever before.

Toric IOLs for Astigmatism

For those cataract patients who also have astigmatism, toric IOLs (intraocular lenses) can be implanted in the eye to replace the eye's natural lens after cataract surgery. These lenses can provide clearer vision and lessen dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
